About us

We are here to help parents raise happy and healthy children

We all need support through the most important period of our children: the early years

I am here to provide an extra stepping stone to your child’s education and inclination to play through exploring nature during their time spent at Hickory House.

At Hickory House children will get formal reading and math lessons, poetry reading, Spanish, thematic read alouds and lessons through inquisitive learning. Children are filled with a desire to question the world around them. So why not foster that critical thinking!

Founder & Teacher

My name is Anna Maria. I grew up in East Texas then moved to San Antonio and Austin to attend the University of Texas. I have a degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. After working as a nanny I decided to pursue teaching. I received my teacher certification from Region XIII in Austin. I have 12 years of teaching in the classroom with most of those being in Austin ISD. I began teaching Dual Language Kindergarten. I’ve taught 1st grade, Pre-K, High School Spanish and then Kindergarten again in a private school setting in Tyler. I decided to stay home with my youngest and at the same time began homeschooling my older two sons. It is such a joy watching my own children learn something new. I hope to be able to reach more children as I open up my home to teach early education.

Vision

We want to inspire young minds through inquiry-based learning, play, nature study and to become good stewards of the earth.

Mission

We are here to help parents in their child’s education that wish to continue to receive academic learning outside of traditional school.
